Daily Yinz – Cisco Kid – Mother Man

A new single that jams its way through the apocalypse.

The Grateful Dead saw fire on the mountain. The fine folks of Cisco Kid see it everywhere. Over a hip-shaking groove whose bubbly guitar plucks bear traces of rings, bells, and begonias, frontwoman Addi Twigg conjures images of flaming mansions, wailing sirens, and rockets crashing back to earth as billionaire passengers learn the meaning of the word “repercussions.” Despite the doom-laden subject matter, the song is anything but somber; rather than cower or run, the band dances on top of the smoldering wreckage as Twigg, accompanied emphatically by guest vocalists Katy Cotten and Sarah Siplak, proclaims, “Do it for the mother, man / And not for another man.” It’s a tie-dyed murder ballad with elemental stakes; the avenging victim is Earth herself, and funky woe unto the ones that crossed her.
