Threaded’s debut, Numb to the Taste, is a crushing fever dream.
Threaded bury grunge’s heavy brood under several weighted anxiety blankets, smothering the bummed-out feelings until they register from far away, through a dissociative haze. The vocals are quiet, almost soothing, while the guitars are distorted, densely layered, and, above all, loud. The churning, regretful “Phantoms” drowns its sorrows in a sea of roiling riffs and pummeling drums. Recommended for fans of Nothing, Cloakroom, and other heavy bands that don’t mind gazing at their shoes.
