Stacia Vonne is a new Pittsburgh artist whose debut single, “Lover,” dropped last week.
The track is an easygoing come-on propelled forward by the punchy drums of Alann Ulises‘s breezy, digitized reggae beat. Vonne, whose voice contains a warm huskiness that reminds me of a brass instrument, dedicates the track to “the lovers/the lover in you,” compares herself to Aphrodite, and imagines trips to exotic locales with a potential significant other. Vonne complements her lead vocal line with all matter of overdubbed, multilingual ad-libs that swirl in the background, creating a rich, immersive atmosphere. The polished, economical sway of “Lover” acts as a strong (and most importantly, catchy) introduction to a rising artist.
