A few words about a few local tracks that hit the spot this week

Pacing – Sunny ❤

Social media has made it possible for us to compare ourselves to an endless torrent of other people and come up short every time. Log on to Instagram, and accounts called “investingexecutives” and “businessmastership” blare unsolicited advice about all the things we should be doing and aren’t. This breezy indie-pop track pokes sarcastic fun at modern life’s endless self-improvement laundry list.

The Long Hunt – The Tower

As if their passages of snaking, odyssean metal (a la Pelican, Isis, Russian Circles) weren’t enough, The Long Hunt, with the release of their new album, Threshold Wanderer, spoil us with an accompanying short film full of psychedelically evocative digital imagery. “The Tower” is simply one part of a saga, which can be viewed here in its entirety.

Stunna2Fly – 50 Opps N Runnin

The latest track from a Pittsburgh hip-hop firebrand, this one features an instrumental that sounds like a string-heavy crime thriller score chopped into sharp fragments and weaponized for maximum impact. Lyrically, memories of destitution (“remember times when my ribs and stomach was touching”) lend weight to seething challenges (“How you tough when you still ain’t slide when your brother died? How you tough when you ain’t ride when his mother cried?”).
