Bishop Ivy returns with another dose of sleek, widescreen indie-pop.
“Tunnel vision” is a futuristic torch ballad that sees Ivy affix his heart firmly to his sleeve, pleading with a partner, “I’ll throw away the world/If that what makes it work.” Organ-like synth drones provide dramatic backing for a shuddering, metronomic beat interspersed with electronic blips that bring to mind a life support machine, hinting at a relationship that’s fading toward oblivion (the beeps are actually sampled from the Target checkout line, but I’m sticking with my more dramatic analogy). Ivy delivers a passionate vocal turn that matches the lyrics’ desperate tone, his voice at times bearing an uncanny resemblance to Justin Bieber’s smooth, R&B-inspired croon. The song comes complete with a dreamily shot video that features Ivy hovering, dazed, a few feet above the ground, and ends with some Coldplay “The Scientist” vibes.
