INEZ and Buffalo Rose join forces to cover the late Johnny Nash’s classic anthem of optimism.
The Pittsburghers translate the original song’s horn-driven, reggae-tinged sway into a breezy back porch jam, complete with plunking upright bass, languid slide guitar, and gossamer mandolin. INEZ, whose vocals are usually accompanied by funky R&B grooves or rumbling hip-hop beats, sounds completely at home amidst the sun-kissed country arrangement, delivering a soulful performance that captures the source material’s spirit while also adding something new. It’s an excellent collaboration that demonstrates the versatility of all artists involved.
