Rapper and producer Bossy released Bramble a few weeks back; the album is full of vivid wordplay, sumptuous beats, and seamlessly integrated features.
“Cali Red” is borne along by a weathered, string-laden beat; its jittery violins and horn flourishes sound like something out of an old crime movie. If this is a Mafioso scene, Bossy is the don, popping the cork on some wine, toasting his enemies, chopping samples while eating egg rolls with a Danish woman, rocking Saint Laurent as casual wear, and jetting off to a foreign beach to lay low after a job. His rapping style is eccentric, featuring bars that brim with so much imagery that they sometimes spill over the edges of the beat. It’s loose, creative stuff from a skilled craftsman.
