Pittsburgh R&B artist Joziah Council drops a self-directed music video for “One Thing,” a lush slow jam released in September.
Council’s vocal style, smooth as a glass of aged whiskey, recalls that of trap’n’b crooners like Bryson Tiller and Partynextdoor. Where the former specializes in I’m-Salty-At-My-Ex torch serenades and the latter in louche come-ons, though, Council is warm and sincere when he sings, “I can give you love/I can give you one thing/Will that be enough?” The song’s instrumental, all hazy vocal overdubs and shimmering guitar arpeggios, approaches dream-pop territory in its sense of weightlessness. The video is well-shot, and features some nifty underwater camerawork as well as a sweet guitar and mic combo. If you like tender balladry, this one is for you.
