Tuckerbox – Mrs Troffea
“Mrs Troffea,” a track from Dasch, the new release by the cats of Tuckerbox (out on Australia’s Static Records), is an extended jazz jam session featuring trombone, trumpet, bass, and drums. It’s got that created-on-the-spot vibe, a true sense of musical freedom. The Dasch dog nods its head in approval.
Acid Carousel and Lick Neon – My Friend The Goat
TX and MA got together and made an album! Or, rather, the sunny, southern psych-rockers of Acid Carousel joined forces with the rootsy Bostonians of Lick Neon to create Money for the Kids (Dreamy Life Records). “My Friend The Goat” jangles along with a warm, communal spirit, organs whirring, slide guitar keening, and voices whooping in tandem. “My life’s a joke/And it’s here to stay,” one refrain goes; self-deprecating, wry, funny, and a bit defiant.
Paola Gladys – Freak, it has to change
NYC-based singer and producer Paola Gladys started recording the brief “Freak, it has to change” (from her Estrogen project) while the US’s COVID situation was in its early days. The lines, “This is the invasion of your mind” and “This is the invasion of your life,” sung over a smooth electro backdrop of snaps and treated vocals, bely the creeping omnipresence of bad news and worry that has come to pass.
