Hyacinth, the brainchild of Pittsburgh multimedia artist Andrw FX, uses manipulated recordings of household objects (with a dash of accordion, of course) to create minimalist sheets of whirring sound.
“Among Blossoms,” the opener to Hyacinth’s latest release, A Budding Reconciliation Of Values (Coolidge Records), begins with a single, placid tone, which lingers, glinting in the background, as nine minutes worth of buzzing, grinding sonic layers are heaped on top. The track starts pretty and ends pretty, but leads you through some true discord along the way. If you’re a fan of stretchy notes, harsh textures, and songs that unfurl slowly, like a plants flowering or massive animals waking from their winter slumbers, then “Among Blossoms” is your thing.
