Peace Talks are a Pittsburgh punk outfit whose latest release, A Lasting Peace, is a contained burst of sawtooth guitars and galloping drums.
The release’s second track, “Vanity,” features an instrumental that writhes and thrashes like a wild animal, several times threatening to tear itself apart entirely. Each time the Peace Talks folks near the precipice of destruction, they pull back, take a second to breathe, and then launch into another sonic barrage. Frontwoman Krystyna Haberman’s vocal performance–all irate shouts and clipped barks–and commanding presence hold everything together. The whole experience is over in 93 breathless seconds.
