Oh boy!
2019 was an interesting year. What started as a simple way to fill the empty hours after work has turned into an all-encompassing, time-sucking, borderline obsessive pursuit, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I started Bored In Pittsburgh in April because I was, well, bored in Pittsburgh; I liked music, I liked writing, so I figured I would try and write about music. I remember thinking how cool it would be for even a few strangers to check out the blog and maybe find some interesting stuff that they hadn’t heard before. It soon became apparent that there was a wealth of talent right under my nose, and once Bored In Pittsburgh became an actual Pittsburgh-centric site, that’s when it took over my life.
To mark the end of the year, Bored In Pittsburgh will be publishing two “Yearly Yinz” lists this week, featuring my favorite Pittsburgh songs and albums of 2019. A few things to keep in mind:
- These aren’t going to be “best-of” lists; there was too much great music released for me to include everything, and I think it’s fruitless to try and pronounce some art as “better” than other art. So, there won’t be any rankings or ratings or anything like that, just lists of personal favorites.
- Since Bored In Pittsburgh came to be in April and didn’t become a “Pittsburgh” site until the summer, it’s possible that I may have overlooked some stuff from the first few months of the year.
Thanks so much to everyone who has stopped by and supported the site this year, and thanks especially to the Pittsburgh music community for supplying endless amounts of writing material and for generally being awesome. Stay tuned for the Yearly Yinz!
