Daily Yinz-Chip & The Charge Ups-Black and Gold Christmas

Christmas comes early to Pittsburgh this year, and it’s decked out in black and gold thanks to power-pop act Chip & The Charge Ups.

A brief mini-blizzard hit our fair city yesterday, drastically speeding up my holiday spirit timeline, so it seems appropriate to highlight a Christmas song today. On November 1st, Chip & The Charge Ups released the single/video “Black and Gold Christmas,” a seasonal celebration of all things Pittsburgh that has since been making the rounds on the Yinzernet. The song itself is a deliriously catchy, Bowling For Soup-esque romp featuring guest singers Liz Berlin (Rusted Root), Doug Carnahan (After The Fall), Jen Craven (A Common Crown), and Char Fields (a kickass gospel singer). The lyrics and video cover all your Steel City bases (Sports! Primanti sandwiches! Pierogis! Dahn-tahn! Fred Rogers! Parking spot chairs! Sinkhole Bus!) before interpolating some Christmas standards near the end of the track. The band is selling t-shirts in accordance with the song, and all proceeds go to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. So, listen to some tunes, work yourself into a jolly holiday fervor, celebrate Pittsburgh, and give back to the community with “Black and Gold Christmas.”
