Pittsburgh’s Lord Dubious makes “beats for the brain.” He uses synths and drum machines as live instruments rather than as a means of programming songs, giving his work a rougher, more organic feel than that of some other electronic music. “Times Are High,” the opening track from his new Ignition! EP (Spacey King), is a glitchy, rollicking number, combining a shuffling beat with some distorted, yet tuneful, synth bleeps and bloops. You can imagine some vintage lunar probe jauntily strutting around the surface of the moon while this song plays in the background over a grainy radio frequency. A nice lil unorthodox track for the end of the weekend, when your brain is still desperately trying to forgot that tomorrow is Monday.
