Daily Discovery-Spooky-Paradise Picture Binge

Today’s find, “Paradise Picture Binge,” is a brief rush of crackling technicolor that can be found on Now That’s Pure Nostalgia!, the new release from Milwaukee, WI experimental ambient artist Spooky. I was drawn to this album while perusing the New Arrivals section of Bandcamp because of the sitting cat pictured on the album cover; if you know anything about me, you probably know that, currently, my only friend is a feisty, one-and-a-half-eared cat named Cleo. While I came for the loaf of cat, I stayed for the song, which sounds like an outtake from Washed Out’s Paracosm sessions, one that’s been captured on an incredibly low-tech reel-to-reel recorder, probably on degraded tape. The effect produced is that of an especially forward-thinking, exuberant silent movie score, complete withs sporadic bursts of popping white noise. A nice listen for this cold and dreary Monday.
